Sri Idaikadar Samadhi

In the previous posting about the great Siddhar Sri Idaikadar, I mentioned that there has been a debate as to the exact location of the samadhi of this great Saint. The Samadhi is believed by most to be located in one of two places inside the Compound of the Arunachaleswarar Temple.

The first spot is located near the Temple Goshala and is maintained by the "Idaikattar Sithar Welfare Association". While there I spoke with a priest connected with the Association and he assured me that this is indeed the recognised Samadhi of Sri Idaikadar. In addition I purchased a book published by the Welfare Association and after perusing it will post any additional biographical information on the great Siddhar.

The second site believed by some to be the location of the samadhi of Sri Idaikadar is at the shrine dedicated to Arunagiri Yogeshwara, which is located at the back of the Shiva Sannidhi. However now that the Trust associated with Sri Idaikadar has declared his samadhi to be the one located near the Temple Goshala, worshippers will probably start congregating at that spot. However below are some photographs at what was previously thought to be the samadhi of the Siddhar.

You enter Arunachaleswarar Temple through the Thirumanjana Gopuram. On the left side is the Cow Goshala . . . get permission to enter that compound and the Shrine is at the bottom of a wall at the side of the Goshala. Workers will show you.

I happened to ask one of the templepriest and he got to be annoyed. He asked me the proof of it and said there is noone other than Shiva. He was literally angered by my question and started even loudly discussing it with other people there. I could not understand what is this...

Have received a number of comments regarding the Shrine and that it is not possible to visit. Currently the Temple is on lockdown like the rest of Tiruvannamalai. Hopefully after the lockdown is over, I can try and get information about access to the Shrine. It is controlled by a Trust independent to the Big Temple and maybe if you get in touch direct with them, you will be able to arrange access. After lockdown is over, I will make a new posting of the Shrine on this Arunachala Grace Blog and give the information that I am able to find. Regards. M

They don't allow to visit goshala samadhi as they fear it'll reduce importance of the main shrine. After the lamp incident, people began to be crowded there and temple authorities locked the gate!
